Exploring YouTube!

Greetings,

I have heard my different styles of Catholic Music, however, I have not yet heard of Catholic RAP.  That is, until today.  Here is a video based on Catholic Rap music.  It was enjoyable to Watch, but don't hold your breath waiting to here this at Mass:

Here is another video.  This is Cardinal Arinze.  At the Time he was the Head guy for Liturgy at the Vatican.  He is speaking about Churches that do not have kneelers.  Since our church does not have kneelers it should give us something to think about.

I know this the a cheap blog post, but I needed something easy today.

  1. Are there plans to return kneelers to Holy Cross?
I know the following is a "cheap" post, but Bishop Keating says it well.

Bishop John Keating of Arlington, Virginia, states in his pastoral letter on Eucharistic reverence:

“No bodily posture so clearly expresses the soul’s interior reverence before God as the act of kneeling. Reciprocally, the posture of kneeling reinforces and deepens the soul’s attitude of reverence.” (A Pastoral Letter on Reverence for the Eucharist, December 4, 1988)

  2. What about a "Kneel for God" fundraiser?

  3. Greetings,

The Girm says that we are supposed to kneel during the consecration, and we should have kneelers. However, that would be an extra cost of about $12,000. It would great if a group of parishioners organized a fundraiser for this.

Also, we have carpeting so it should not be to difficult for people to kneel. However, without kneelers I don't want to ask people to kneel. Not having kneelers would be a valid reason to stand. It would be good to see parishioners kneel.

  5. Another Catholic rap. A little subliminal in affect yet appears to send a good message concerning spiritual warfare:

    Fr. Tom,

What is the process of requesting a fundraising effort? A pastoral council request or something else? My thought is that without prudent support the effort would fail. Ideas?

  6. Begin with a talking to me. Then if it sounds feasible, present it to parish council. I trust their input in things.

  7. Seems to me that when the kneelers were taken out of Holy Cross, the pews were moved closer together in order to accomodate more people. In order to put them back in, we may have to remove pews and recarpet. Could end up having to do more fundraising than we'd expect.

  8. Greetings,

That is correct. Each pew was moved one inch closer. This is not to close to have kneelers. The pews would not have to be moved. However, in the next 10 years the church will probably need new carpet and paint. It has been 20 years since it was redone already. It was remodeled in 1990, and before that in 1974. If you look closely the carpet is wearing out. I don't see this as a possibility in the near future though at all.
